Shedeur Sanders Snubbed in First Round of 2025 NFL Draft, Eyes Second Round

In a stunning turn of events at the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders — the standout quarterback from the University of Colorado and son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders — was not selected in the first round, despite projections that had him as a top-10 pick.
Sanders' absence from the opening round surprised many analysts and fans. Leading up to the draft, Sanders was lauded for his poise, accuracy, and football IQ. However, concerns reportedly emerged during pre-draft interviews, where some teams believed Sanders and his camp were trying to steer him toward specific franchises. These concerns may have caused hesitation among front offices.
The New York Giants, previously rumored to be seriously considering Sanders, instead traded up and selected Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. That move added fuel to speculation that teams may have chosen to avoid potential off-field complications.
Financially, the drop could have a significant impact. The No. 1 overall pick is expected to earn around $43 million, while the 32nd pick's deal is worth approximately $13.3 million — meaning Sanders may lose out on millions by not going in the first round.
Despite the disappointment, Sanders remains a top target for several quarterback-needy teams going into Day 2 of the draft. The Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets are among the franchises still in the hunt for quarterback talent.
Round 2 of the draft resumes Friday evening, April 25, from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and will be broadcast on ESPN, ABC, and the NFL Network.
As for Sanders, all eyes are now on where the talented QB will land — and how he’ll turn this early career challenge into motivation.
